Mai-Wel thank AFRM for a great day of volunteering
On Tuesday 8 March 38 AFRM staff members took part in a volunteer day at seven Mai-Wel shared living homes across Maitland, which are for people living with a disability. Our staff installed garden beds and provided gardening services to the homes, as well as met and interacted with some of the residents.
AFRM arranged this as part of their annual staff retreat, where our employees from across Australia come together to learn and relax, and also to give something back to the community.
Mai-Wel CEO, Pennie Kearney, sent the following letter to AFRM following the day:
"The 38 staff from AFRM who volunteered their time and energy to improve the gardens and homes of the people with a disability who access Mai-Wel's services are to be commended. Not only were you a hard working group as evidenced by the huge amount of work completed in very hot conditions, but your friendly and enthusiastic personalities brought a lot of joy to our residents and staff."
"Each of you are a credit to your organisation and AFRM presents an excellent example to the business community of a company committed to adding value to this community."
After the volunteering, AFRM staff enjoyed a BBQ at the Mai-Wel head office where we donated $3000 which will be allocated to the Mai-Wel Creative Arts Program.
“Rather than run a typical work team-building day, we thought it would be a much more worthwhile experience to do something useful for a local organisation,” AFRM Director, Mark Hoskin, said. “It was a privilege for us to provide a little help towards the outstanding service Mai-Wel provides for people with disabilities.”
The Mai-Wel Group is one of the larger disability service providers in the lower Hunter region, providing services and programs to more than 900 people with a disability across nine Local Government Areas. Please note, this information has been prepared by Australian Financial Risk Management Pty Ltd (AFRM) ABN 21 001 696 868.
