SetWidth440 Mike2We have a quick chat with new Sydney-based AFRM adviser Mike.

When did you start at AFRM and what were you doing beforehand?

I started in July this year. I was previously at a Financial Planning Practice in Parramatta.

What is the most rewarding part of being an adviser?

Providing advice that actually makes a difference to clients when they need it.

What would you say to a young family who doesn’t have any risk insurance?

I would ask them to think back to their childhood and think about the events that could have affected their circumstances had something happened to their parents. How would it have turned out? In the same circumstances what would they have done? I would discuss with them what can they do now to prevent the same potential circumstances with their family.

What do you believe is your main area of expertise within risk advice?

My area of interest is the relationship between small business owners and their partners and how this extends to their personal lives. In the event one of them suffers a catastrophic event what protection does each party have both financially and legally? Many good and growing businesses have been ruined by lack of planning to ensure what happens if one of the partners either dies or can't work any longer.

And, to something more light-hearted:

How do you like to spend your weekends?

With my kids involved in their activities.

Where is your favourite place to travel to and why?

Europe where there is so much diversity.

If you weren’t a risk adviser, what would you most like to be?

A PAC 10 college basketball coach.
