Nicholas is a founding director of AFRM, following a career in Banking, Finance and Commercial Real Estate. He has over 15 years experience in financial risk management, specialising in business matters such as succession planning and keyperson issues, where he works closely with his clients Accountants and solicitors to implement appropriate strategies. Nicholas holds a Diploma in Financial Services (Financial Planning) and is a Member of the Association of Financial Advisers (Australia) and the SMSF Professional Association of Australia (SPAA). As a Director of one of the leading Risk advice firms in Australia, Nicholas is regularly sought out by various life insurance companies to assist with product design and service reviews.
Mark has over 20 years experience in the financial planning/insurance industry and operates out of the Central Coast office. Mark specialises in the management of business and personal risk relating to insurance contracts and their analysis. Mark is a member of the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) and holds a Diploma of Financial Planning and a Diploma of Superannuation Management. Mark, in his role as General Manager NSW, manages the adviser team in NSW.
Rob brings over 10 years experience in the financial services industry, which has included both paraplanning and advising roles in financial planning and financial risk management. Rob holds a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning), and a Bachelor of Commerce. Rob is a member of the Australian Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) and meets the standards set by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission for the financial services industry (RG 146).
Steve has over 30 years’ experience in the Financial Services Industry, working in various Marketing & Sales Management and Client Advice roles focusing on risk management solutions. Throughout his career, Steve has developed an in depth knowledge of the Financial Services Industry, holds a Diploma of Financial services and Estate Planning. Steve meets the standards set by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission for the financial Services Industry (RG146). “My core focus is a can do culture makes a positive difference for our clients to mitigate their personal and business financial Risks” Steve is a member of the Association of Financial Advisers and QLD AFA Foundation Committee Chair. Steve is also Managing Director of Business Risk Institute Australia.
Damien has been in the Financial Services industry since 2005 with previous roles in Financial & Risk paraplanning. His current role is General Manager Services covering management of the supporting functions of AFRM. He also has a great time working with all staff members, across all offices, to ensure the day to day operation of the business runs smoothly.
Daniel has been working in the financial services industry for over 10 years, firstly as an accountant and for the past seven years as a financial planner and specialist risk adviser. Daniel is an LRS® Life Risk Specialist, has an Advanced Diploma of Accounting and is an Affiliate Member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). Daniel meets the standards set by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission for the financial services industry (RG 146).
Philip joined AFRM in 2007, following 20 years of experience in the mining industry as a metallurgist. Philip specialises in analysing the risk exposure of clients in the personal and business markets and managing claims. Philip holds a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) and is a Justice of the Peace (JP). Philip meets the standards set by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission for the financial services industry (RG 146).
Huy joined the AFRM Melbourne team as an associate adviser in May 2015 after graduating from the AMP Horizon’s Academy for financial advisers. Huy holds a bachelor of Commerce and diploma of financial planning and has extensive experience in investment banking and financial services. "I see AFRM as a selective and collective group of dedicated individuals whose passion in giving quality advice to their clients. I feel welcomed and proud to be a part of this AFRM family".
Prior to joining AFRM in 2016 as a risk adviser, Sue spent 16 years in specialist roles in a major banking group, and private financial and wealth management practices.
Sue is a passionate and caring financial planning strategist providing purposeful risk protection advice to ensure that her clients, their dependents, and/or their businesses are financially protected at a point in time when finances should be the least of their worries. She works with her clients, exploring with them their lifestyles, their ambitions, and their commitments, and helping them to identify and address their preparedness for unexpected circumstances.
As well as helping to identify the right solution for each client, Sue also clearly explains the purpose and reasoning behind her recommended strategies, and liaises with insurance companies on her clients’ behalf in the event of a claim, providing peace of mind at a stressful time.
Mike has over 25 years Financial Services experience, including over 15 years as an adviser. Mike has trained and assisted other advisers in particular in core disciplines of Life Risk business, Mike is an experienced Business Risk Adviser often solving complex Business Relationships to ensure seamless transfer of assets to intended beneficiaries when a partner or owner suffers a catastrophic event.
Mike has attained the Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) and Advanced Diploma. He has also lectured for a number of Registered Training Organizations (RTO) at both Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels and has also instigated a mentoring program for new Risk Advisers at several Licensee’s prior to joining AFRM.
Jeremy brings over 12 years experience in the financial services industry, which has included advising, administration, client service and paraplanning roles. Jeremy holds a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning). Jeremy meets the standards set by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission for the financial services industry (RG 146).
Justin joined AFRM in May 2015 as a para-planner after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of New England. In January 2016, he began the transition to becoming an associate adviser under the direction of Nicholas Hatherly and by November 2016 he was appointed as Financial Risk Analyst. With his background as a para-planner, Justin brings a wealth of technical knowledge to the advice process through product knowledge, policy structures and tax strategies. Justin holds his Diploma of Financial Planning, a double degree in Economics and Business and was awarded the Australian Finance Conference Award for Economics/F.R. & W.T. Award for Public Finance in 2013 after topping the UNE Business School’s Banking and Finance program.
Amanda is our longest standing employee with her employment commencing in 2001. Amanda is working in a Senior Administration role and Personal Assistant to one of the Directors, she is reliable, dedicated and commited to providing a professional service to both AFRM and their clients. Her role includes a varied range of customer support, assisting the Directors and Operations Manager where required, events co-ordinator, OHS and claims management. Working with our clients and building strong relationships is most rewarding especially when the desired outcomes are achieved. Wathana has been AFRM's Company Accountant since 2005. She has been vital in assisting the Directors in the midst of significant growth in the business during this time. Wathana completed her formal accounting qualification with a Bachelor of Commerce at Newcastle University. Her qualifications allow her to ensure the financial processes and integrity of the financial and policy reporting of AFRM is completed to the highest standard. Her role includes preparation of financial reports for the board of directors, payroll, liasion with external auditors and shareholders and assisting advisers with any financial requirements. "In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, husband David, two young sons, running, swimming, cooking and reading."
Bev Murray is the office manager of our Sydney office. She has over 20 years experience in the industry which has included administration and client services, and she now specialises in Group Insurance. Her role involves managing administration staff, liaising with our corporate clients and direct with insurance companies carrying out the implementation/re-marketing exercise of plans, annual reviews, managing of claims and underwriting administration.
Lindsey has worked in financial services since finishing his Bachelor of Commerce in 2000. He gained experience in corporate and chartered accountancy before moving into financial services in 2003 when he commenced with AFRM as a Paraplanner. Lindsey left AFRM in 2006 when he joined a prominent stockbroking firm as a Private Client Advisor in their Gold Coast office. He returned to Newcastle in 2008 and stayed in stockbroking before returning to AFRM in 2012. Lindsey's diverse experience allows him to truly appreciate the importance of risk management in the achievment of financial goals. He has a Bachelor of Commerce, Certificate IV in financial planning, Securities and Derivatives Association Accreditation and is ADA2 accredited by the ASX. Lindsey meets the standards set by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission for the financial services industry (RG 146)
Danielle, or Danni as we know her, has been working in the risk insurance industry since 2004 and joined AFRM in September 2013. Her previous position was as an Office Manager providing paraplanning and administrative support to the Director. Danni is looking forward to expanding her paraplanning skills and risk knowledge including commencing her Diploma of Financial Planning. “I have been welcomed into a wonderful team atmosphere here at AFRM and I am enjoying growth from the wealth of knowledge and experience that surrounds me”. In her spare time, Danni also works as a Latin dance instructor which she has a great love and passion for.
Karen joined AFRM in June 2005 and with her vast knowledge of the risk administration process, Karen plays a vital role in our accounts team. Her attention to detail and dedication ensures the accounts process runs smoothly every month. "I feel very lucky to be part of an experienced team that share a real passion and energy for the Industry".
Tracy joined AFRM in October 2005. She is the Executive Assistant to Executive Director - National Sales Manager, Mark Hoskin and works in our Central Coast Office. She loves working for Mark and the AFRM team and enjoys the flexibility of being able to balance family life with her job. "It's the best company I've ever worked for!"
Katie joined the team in October 2012 as the Junior Administrator for our Newcastle office. Since joining AFRM she has had the opportunity to learn so much and is always looking forward to furthering her skills and assisting the other staff at AFRM in any way that she can. “AFRM is a challenging, fun and professional environment in which I am able to constantly grow and learn, whilst working with such a friendly team.”
Sue joined AFRM’s Brisbane office in June 2015 as our Client Service Administrator to Steve Currie. Sue has had previous experience in the financial services sector and comes to us with a great knowledge on insurance and client service work.
Sonal joined AFRM’s Melbourne office in July 2015 as our Client Service Administrator to Rob Vitnell. Sonal has had previous experience in the financial services sector and comes to us with a great knowledge on insurance and client service work.
Elizabeth, or Liz, joined AFRM in January 2015 within the newly created retention team in our Newcastle Office. Liz has since moved into the role of Client Service Administrator to Philip Hatherly. Liz came to us with over 25 years Banking, Lending, Customer Service and Reconciliation experience. ‘I feel that within AFRM, I have been given the opportunity to further build on my existing skills sets and further my working life’.
Michelle joined AFRM in January 2016 as our Client Service Administrator to Daniel Musumeci. Michelle’s previous roles within the Insurance industry included administration and client services. Michelle hopes to be able to build strong and ongoing relationships with our clients to ensure that they know we are here for them when it really counts.
Joy, joined AFRM in February 2016 within the retention team in our Newcastle Office. Joy came to us with a background in Banking.
